State Attorney General Joining in Suit Against Kilgore ISD

KILGORE – The state’s attorney general is intervening in a property tax lawsuit against the Kilgore School District. Attorney General Ken Paxton says the school district violated state law and the Texas Constitution when it repealed the district’s local option homestead exemption. According to Paxton, “Local governments cannot be allowed to simply ignore laws that they do not like.” The Kilgore school board voted June 29th to eliminate the school district’s local optional 20% homestead exemption. District officials say they will not comment on Paxton’s action.
