TYLER – The Robert E. Lee High School Debate Team recently competed in the UIL District Cross-Examination (CX) competition, earning team spots in the 2017 State UIL CX meet. It will be in Austin March 17th and 18th. Two Lee teams competed against 10 other teams from John Tyler High School, Rockwall, North Mesquite, Longview and Mesquite high schools. Although Rockwall took the top spot, the REL team of Alexander Wick and Cameron Escalante finished in second place and the team of William Johnson and Michael Foley finished in third place (first alternate to State). Due to previous commitments, Wick and Escalante are unable to compete at the State meet, so Johnson and Foley have officially filled the number two slot. The 2016-17 CX Debate topic was: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China.
