Man Arrested After Fighting With Nacogdoches Deputies

NACOGDOCHES – Two Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s deputies were injured Friday morning while fighting with a suspect. It happened after a report of a suspicious man who appeared to be selling drugs. He was found in the parking lot near the jail visitation area. When the deputy tried to stop him from walking away, he starting fighting with the deputy. Another deputy tried to help, but the fight continued. Additional deputies arrived and Haward Johnson, 47, of Nacogdoches, was taken into custody.

During the fight, Johnson was seen throwing a black sock into some bushes. After it was recovered, deputies found it contained contained less than a gram of methamphetamine along with a smoking pipe. One deputy was transported to the hospital for a shoulder injury. Another deputy was treated at the scene by EMS and released. Johnson was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He is being charged with assault on a public servant, possession of controlled substance and resisting arrest.
