TJC Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Receives Full Accreditation
Posted/updated on: May 24, 2017 at 12:06 pmTYLER – The Tyler Junior College Occupational Therapy Assistant program has received full accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Occupational therapy assistants work with licensed occupational therapists to provide care and treatment to help people participate more fully in everyday life. They help persons develop, recover and improve the skills needed for daily living and working. They work with in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, schools and nursing homes, as well as in the patients’ homes, places of employment and other community settings.
The TJC Occupational Therapy Assistant program provides students with four semesters of classroom and laboratory learning, followed by one semester of full-time fieldwork under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist or a certified occupational therapy assistant, leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree.
After successfully completing the program, OTA students can take the national exam given by the National Board for Certification in Occupational to become a certified occupational therapy assistant.
