johncornynLONGVIEW — U.S. Sen. John Cornyn was in Longview Sunday joining local law enforcement, elected officials, and advocacy groups for a roundtable discussion on the rising problem of human trafficking in the region and joint efforts to crack down on traffickers and protect victims. According to a Cornyn press release, human trafficking has become a growing problem throughout East Texas as traffickers capitalize on major thoroughfares such as I-20 and SH 259.

Representatives from the Longview Police Department and several local non-profits updated the Senator on local efforts to combat human trafficking. Sen. Cornyn is set to discuss his Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act legislation that would assist local efforts by increasing law enforcement resources, enhancing victims’ services and increasing penalties in an effort to put a stop to child sex trafficking, child pornography, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking.
